Welcome to

Maison Camp-Vif

Camp-Vif nests on top of the beautiful valley d'Arnaud, at the heart of the Massifs des Maures, — just a whisper from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The property, consisting of the main house and a guest house, stretches on a partly wooded land of 13500 m² including a vineyard and multiple terraces, shaded by olive trees and surrounded by chestnut and cork oak trees.

Our residence is located on a small old pathway connecting the villages of La Garde-Freinet and Grimaud — right at the bottom of the hill of Miremer which offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding area and the mediterranean sea. Historically, Camp-Vif was known for hosting one of the oldest and largest linden trees in the region.
We like to think of the Camp-Vif as the perfect place for a sun-filled holiday between the hills and the sea — a romantic retreat among the vines and olive groves, guarded by spiked cypress trees.

Main House

Maison Camp-Vif started life as a Coaching Inn and a former post house, a Relais. It is a rare 18th-century thick-stone building that sits at the top of the valley d’Arnaud — offering an uninterrupted view over the plains up to a wave of hills rolling back to the south of the Massif des Maures.

The Main House offers a large living room on the ground floor with a charming fireplace. The open space leads into the dining area and a kitchen, which is small, but cozy, and well equipped - it comes with chunky tiles and a traditional sink that gives it the charms of an undeniably Provençal setting.

The ground floor opens onto a porch covered with Wisteria, as well as to the main terrace, which is a perfect sun-trap in winter. During summer, dappled shade from the magnificent fig tree reduces sunlight. A solid old-stone wall on the side protects from the breeze in winter, which makes it our all-season favorite lunch spot.

A century-old stone staircase leads you to the first floor where you'll find three bedrooms, one full bathroom, and a powder room.
The main bedroom is a long beamed room with a pair of south-facing windows giving on one of the most scenic landscapes on the property.
The second bedroom comes with two-side windows and offers a bucolic view overlooking the vineyard behind a majestic Atlas cedar tree.
The third and smallest bedroom has a more intimate feel and looks on to the cedar tree as well.

Guest House

Our guesthouse is a ground floor stone-lodge, located just a few steps below the main house with little to no vis-à-vis to each other.

The interior is a light open space comprised of one bedroom with a separate bathroom, a large living room with an extra bed, and a kitchen. The living space has a high sloped ceiling and two full-height windows. The guest house opens on a graveled terrace overlooking olive groves on various levels. The terrace is sheltered by a tall and strong Cork Oak tree providing a constant dappled shade.

Maison Camp-Vif is very special for us, it’s a place that has a unique charm and a soul. We put love and care to tastefully decorate and furnish all interiors while keeping authenticity with Provençal fabrics and typical regional furniture. At the same time, we crave to provide all standard amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible. To know more in detail about our accommodations or request a booking, open the links below.

Our Region

NATURE

The Massif des Maures is a remarkable untouched low-lying crystalline mountain range. It’s home to the Hermann's tortoise and an island of crock oak forests and sweet chestnut trees. The area is sparsely populated because of the rugged landscape.

From Vidauban on the way up to La-Garde-Freinet, a vast natural site called “The Plaine des Maures” offers a unique collection of ecosystems formed by an array of fauna and flora. Parasol pines spread among red sandstones, which are set against the blue background of rolling hills. This magnificent landscape is often compared to the African savannah and is unique in France. Along the ridges of La-Garde-Freinet, the panoramic heights surround you with views of the distant pre-Alps and dense hills that ricochet down to the St Tropez peninsula and the Mediterranean sea.

La Maison Camp-Vif is the ideal point of departure to discover the Massifs des Maures. There are many trails to be enjoyed through the forests, either on foot or by mountain bike. There are also trails for horse riders. Some of the trails afford wonderful views of the Mediterranean sea.

THE VILLAGE

La Garde-Freinet is a medieval village that has kept its authentic provencal charm. From Maison Camp-Vif the village is reachable in just 10 minutes drive or a nice 35 minutes walk. There are a small biweekly regional market and various shops, restaurants, and bars — atm, bookstore, art galleries, a winery, two bakeries, post office, two butchers, two small supermarkets, antique shops, and a public outdoor pool (open June–August.) Anything you can’t find in La Garde-Freinet is available in the neighboring villages Grimaud (9 km) and Cogolin (12 km,) or in Saint-Tropez (21 km.)

THE CULTURAL HERITAGE

La Garde-Freinet and the surrounding region hold a strong cultural heritage and has been an artists’ hideaway for decades. François Truffaut found refuge in the early ’60s at Jeanne Morreau’s farm-house le Nid du Duc, which is half a kilometer away from our home. Besides, writers like Serge Rezvani who lived next door to Maison Camp-Vif wrote the famous song “Le tourbillon de la vie” featured in the film ‘Jules et Jims.’ David Hockney painted his remarkable Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures.) nearby. Today still, many artists and writers fall under the charm of La Garde Freinet and continue to make it their home.

NEARBY PLACES

Just a step away from the wilderness of the Massifs des Maures, the luscious strip of the coastline of the Côte d'Azur provides all kinds of glitz and glamour — from the sun-drenched sandy beach at the Club 55 to the easy-going lifestyle on offer at the Café Sénéquier in St. Tropez.Still, there are plenty of places where you can find peaceful and idyllic experiences such as the family-friendly beaches of Gigaro and l'Escalet. The coastal paths between La Croix Valmer and Ramatuelle are remarkably wild and punctuated by beautiful creeks. Historical places like Gassin and Grimaud with their castle ruins, and the monastery of Our Lady of La Verne near Collobrière, are particularly beautiful. Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Toulon, and Marseille are easily accessible by car. Wildlife lovers and hikers can reach the fantastic Gorges du Verdon in one and a half hours.

FURTHER ACTIVITIES

Our region is a great golf destination. Only a 10 minutes drive from Camp-Vif you can contact the 18-hole course, Beauvallon Golf in Grimaud. One of the other top courses in the region includes Golf Saint Endreol in La Motte.

In just about two hours' drive from Maison Camp Vif, you reach two ski areas, Isola 2000 or Auron. On the way, there is a stunning wilderness of snow-capped mountains, pine-clad valleys, and undiscovered villages to explore.
